Blue Coral Minis
Asked to do some smaller versions of my large blue coral pieces, I gave it a try, not bad, messy oil pastels work better on larger formats, but this is kind of cool. The lady who commissioned this loved it, so this might be something for me to think about doing, a smaller size for more people to find access points into art.
11" X 8 1/2" Holbein Oil Pastels on Stonehenge paper.
Blue Coral Mini
A little looser this time, but still a Blue Coral Mini, 8 1/2" X 11" - easier on the pocket book but still makes quite a statement. Contact me if interested.
And more soon to be seen show photos:
Another view of the hanging work at Borders Frame
Show has been hung
Excitement comes as I got to see the artwork up on the walls.........looking so much better than on the tables. I'm excited as the date is near for the show on January 9th in Miami.
It All Starts With A Scribble!
"Almost everything starts with a scribble." That sentence pretty much sums up the essence of my art. This holds true except when I purposely work on representational works such as fish or other animals.
The beginning of most of my work really is that first scribble, that emotive movement from the unconscious brain to my hand to the paper or canvas.
From there it takes on shapes and most often with loud music playing in my studio, adds to the almost trance like world my mind goes into. Shapes and colors are chosen to bring forth new discoveries of design and pleasure. In some ways, each piece of art is, to me, like giving birth. They are hard to part with or sell, but to continue making more, I have learned to let go.
For my upcoming show, I wanted to also share with a cause, and I picked "The Nature Conservancy," for their dedication in preserving all the wild life that they are so good at protecting.
I want to very much thank Albert Castiglia and Graham Wood Drout for their generous contribution to the re-emergence of my fine art career-----having given it up for too many years. But working with blues musicians such as Albert Castiglia and now going back to being a visual artist is truly a blessed journey. I thank you all for being a part of that. And last, but certainly not least, I need to thank Steve Meeks, Sr. and Borders Frame, for literally pushing me back to my art - you get my most sincere gratitude!!
I hope you as the viewer will enjoy these works of art and help me donate to "The Nature Conservancy," by buying a piece of art. My show on January 9th in Miami will give everyone who can attend, a chance to see the pieces and get close to the energy of the colors and movement.
After the show closes, I will reopen the store online and update the inventory that is available.
Check out the show page and works page to see more of my art.
Ghost Piece
New work, defied me all the way through it - tried to hide behind my ideas, acted like a Ghost until I was able to draw it out. Working with abstract ideas is a discovery process very different than realism, and although I can do both, I truly enjoy the discovery process more when I start with a blank page and work through sometimes scribbles that lead to ideas.
The Nature Conservancy
Excited to have contacted The Nature Conservancy in my area and looking forward to working together to make the January 9, 2016 Art and Music Show additionally a Benefit for The Nature Conservancy!
Islamorada conceptual to finished artwork
Finished the work promised in the blog below - after Islamorada google map inspiration.
Art work from my heart, thru love and broken hearts! →
Love is fragile, it gives us love and pain and yet it can inspire. These pieces do both. I have thought a lot about lost loves, mistakes made, opportunities lost and yet, love remains with me with or without the other person's knowledge. Love just is and it is reflected in these recent works that have been completed and added to the website. I hope they can make others feel the electricity of love.
Working from a GPS Google Earth Inspiration
While driving on US-1 in the Florida Keys, while in Islamorada, this image struck me as so inspiring. With the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, we were but a speck on the map driving down the Keys. The water colors are so charged with energy and vibrant blues and greens, I was able to get a screen capture and will use it to inspire a new piece of work. My work will be different, but it will have come from this place on land and my heart.
Abstract Color going wild
My work is getting bolder and colors are swirling and it is wonderful to see these new finished pieces. More are on the way.
And even more abstract colors.........
Enjoying this series and they are a bit smaller so they can be affordable. All of these pieces will be included in a percentage of sales going to The Nature Conservancy. Please help save the environment and it's species.
New Fish Skin Abstract work
Finished, Brazilian Fish with water bubbles
Love these, they take forever to get them right, but they add to my body of work a beautiful sense of the underwater world, a place that is still to be discovered. The colors jump out and grab you!
Finished, Brazilian Fish in deep sea, Holbein Oil Pastels on Stonehenge Paper, 22" X 30"
Brazilian Fish in works
Working with Holbein Oil Pastels to create another rich fish, trying to save all these beautiful species by showing them off.
About halfway done, wait until you all see the mouth, looks like something very different from the rest of the fish, all the more interesting. (Not seen in this photo because it is still in the works)
